Fewer device versions but more flexibility. This sums up the key attribute of the new multifunctional light section sensors from ipf electronic. Special feature: The contactless laser sensors are extraordinarily versatile with regard to their potential applications and are, thus, extremely flexible.
The new series of multifunctional light section sensors consists of a total of seven devices (PY740020, PY740021, PY740025, PY740026, PT740020, PT740021 and PY74002A) with degree of protection IP67, all of which are based on the same measurement principle and are absolutely identical in design. Because the systems use scanner operation, the devices need no soiling-sensitive reflectors or a counterpart, such as a receiver.
DISTANCE-INDEPENDENT EDGE MEASUREMENT
The PY740020 and PY740021 with operating distances of 75mm to 150mm and 150mm to 250mm, respectively, determine the position of object edges independent of distance. These sensors are equipped with features that were previously only possible with complex laser measurement systems, but are as easy to operate as a diffuse reflection sensor. Both devices measure the exact distance values to the object surface along their laser line and calculate the position of object edges using an intelligent algorithm. From this data, the position of an edge or the distance or gap between two edges is then determined. Owing to the integrated coordinate transformation, the PY740020 and PY740021 can, like almost all of the devices of this series, also be positioned laterally above an object at an angle of ±30°. These sensors are used, for example, in double-sheet control in metal processing, in edge control or in gap control, e.g., when monitoring the correct sealing of carton packages.
AMPLE SPACE FOR HEIGHT MEASUREMENT
Ideal for a range of uses in the field of quality assurance are the PY740025 (operating distance 100mm – 150mm) and PY740026 (operating distance 100mm – 500mm). They determine the heights or profiles of objects at a high resolution of up to 2μm based on the following five parameters: maximum, minimum and mean height, delta height value (e.g. to identify non-conforming products on the basis of a non-standard shape) and standard deviation across all determined height information. The intelligent combination of the parameters enables these devices to perform instant evaluation in applications where objects need to be checked and NOK products immediately rejected.
DISTANCE MEASUREMENT FOR DEMANDING SURFACES
For reliable distance measurements – even with demanding surfaces which are unevenly glossy (non-reflective) or extremely rough – the PT740020 and PT740021 are recommended. With minimum operating distances of 100mm and maximum operating distances of 150mm and 500mm, a high resolution of up to 2μm and measurement frequencies of up to 1540Hz, these laser distance sensors offer very exact and always repeatable measurement results without the use of external software or complicated conversions. These devices are predestined, in particular, for highly accurate measuring and testing applications, e.g., with glossy molded parts or objects with extremely rough surfaces.
HIGH FLEXIBLITY WHEN MEASURING ROUND OBJECTS
The series of light section sensors is rounded off with the PY74002A, which was designed for measuring round objects with outer diameters from 30mm to 130mm. The sensor is equipped with a total of five different measuring modes for performing this task: center point, diameter, highest measurement point of an object (vertex) as well as right and left outer position. Potential fields of use for the PY74002A include, e.g., the diameter measurement of metal tubes, the positioning of round containers (e.g., yogurt cups) during filling or the center point determination as a reference for surface coating.
All multifunctional light section sensors from ipf electronic operate over a temperature range from -10°C to +50°C and are even immune to changing ambient light conditions.
