New visions in distance measurement and positioning

Our new laser triangulation sensors of the PT64 series will replace the tried and tested PT65 and PT66 device series. The devices, which are nearly identical mechanically, house three sensors in one: an analog sensor, a switching sensor, and a contrast sensor. With the free software included in the scope of delivery, the performance spectrum of the PT64 is again significantly enhanced and therefore offers many new opportunities to flexibly use these laser triangulation sensors from ipf electronic in a wide range of applications.

The devices of protection class IP67 with laser class 1 (measuring range up to 300mm at laser point, measuring range up to 200mm at laser line) or 2 (measuring range up to 600/1000mm) even have impressive external values: these include, among other things, the integrated LED status indicators, 2 digital inputs, 2 analog outputs (0-10V or 4-20mA) as well as 2 digital outputs, which, in conjunction with the PT64 software, offer not only interesting, but also extremely useful options for practical use. Particularly noteworthy: the rotatable M12 angle plug that significantly simplifies the diffuse reflection sensors' assembly.

The PT64s are equipped with two LEDs for the status display, with one tricolor-LED display (red, green, and white) being capable of displaying three different types of information (the left-hand tricolor-LED indicates where the measured value is in relation to the taught-in tolerance range, while the right-hand LED indicates the operational state of the sensor).

Even as-delivered, the devices of the PT64 series offer a variety of basic functions, so that the diffuse reflection laser triangulation sensors can be quickly put to use. As a factory default, all PT64s supply a distance signal based on the entire measuring range of the respective device type.

The diffuse reflection sensors provide two analog signals 0–10 V and 4–20mA and various measuring ranges, whereby the shortest measuring range is 21mm to 45mm, and the largest spans from 150mm to 1,000mm. Moreover, depending on the device type and therefore the measuring range, the diffuse reflection sensors achieve resolutions of 6µm to 250µm with laser spot and laser line. With the integrated teach button, the user is able to set as new the start and end point of the measuring range within the measuring range limits specified by the corresponding device. For shifting the measuring range limits, there is a time window of 5 minutes from the point of connecting the sensor to the supply voltage. This time window is intended to protect the device from unauthorized or unintended tampering.
