Optical sensors with IO-Link

ipf electronic logically complements the portfolio of sensors with IO-Link interface. During SPC IPC DRIVES, the sensor specialist will be presenting a new series of optical sensors with IO-Link.

The devices with IO-Link interface are the optical sensors of the ON33, OT33, ON43 and OT43 series as well as the ON45 and OT45. The range of solutions here spans from scanning retro-reflective sensors with transmitter and receiver in one device (system components serve as reflector) to diffuse reflection sensors, also with integrated transmitter and receiver (emitted light beam is reflected by the object that is to be detected). Through the integrated background suppression, the devices of the OT33 and OT45 series are ideally suited for reliably detecting objects with widely varying surface colors and suppressing components in the background. The diffuse reflection sensors of the OT43 series, on the other hand, convert the object distance to a measurement signal that is proportional to distance.

The sensors are offered in a total of three sizes:
ON33 and OT33 (39x13x23 mm), ON43 (43x14.8x32.5mm), OT43 (43x14.8x36.5 mm) as well as ON45 and OT45 (56x18x32mm). The maximum switching distances of the devices range from 300 to  800mm.

All devices feature degree of protection IP67 and are suitable for use in ambient temperatures from -25°C to +60°C (ON33, OT33, ON45, OT45), -30°C to +60°C (ON43) and 0°C to +50°C (OT43). The active surface of the sensors consists of plastic (ASA or PMMA).

With respect to their design and their technical features, the new optical sensors are absolutely identical to the device series without IO-Link interface. Thus, the new IO-Link-capable sensors can simply replace optical sensors from ipf electronic that are already in use.

By replacing, the user obtains a future-oriented sensor solution that integrates additional intelligence and is thus able to, e.g., transfer process and diagnostic data to a primary control and be configured during running operation. Other advantages of IO-Link-capable sensor solutions include simple, trouble-free wiring with no special requirements as well as cost-effective standardization through devices than can easily be replaced with plug & play technology.
